I have been pulling out my old film cameras and have found a renewed interest in shooting with film.  Rediscovering the beauty of black and white and film grain,  I have started a series of still life images, shooting with my old film cameras, and then processing the film.  The final step is camera scans to convert to digital format, where the finishing touches are added.  Here are a few examples of this adventure…

Now An Artist

I am honored to have been accepted into the Seacoast Artists Gallery, in the Market Common section of Myrtle Beach. The Seacoast Artists Gallery holds a vast array of quality artwork.

My drive-by scenics, local views and black and whites have been on display. So far, I have taken a third and first place in the last two juried shows. On a roll!

Why Old Tricks For New Dogs?

When I was starting out in photography, I enjoyed going to presentations given by top pros. They were like travel logs, showing images and getting the behind the scenes look at the execution and philosophy behind each successful image – in rapid fire fashion. We would then take the information we digested to explore these techniques in our own work.

The information in OTFND tries to emulate those quick explanations, with enough info, for you to be able to emulate these tips in your own photography.

I would welcome any feedback or suggestions to better improve OTFND for you.  Thanks for Looking.

March is bringing two unique opportunities for me — lighting demos at Trident Technical College in Charleston and a brunch presentation on Visual Branding at the Conway Chamber of Commerce.

1.  The lighting presentation will show off DynaLite’s Baja monolights for studio and location use.  The Bajas are a pleasure to work with, have plenty of power and are either AC or battery operated. With the 2.4 GHz radio you can set 16 channels and 6 groups to control multiple lights, and can also set each unit’s power level.  Also you have 5/10/15 flashes per second in strobo mode and HSS (High Speed Sync) with Canon or Nikon cameras.  Bringing  “Dyna-Lite Enlightenment”.

2.  The Visual Branding presentation will give guidance in producing visuals for that will connect to your customers to create a buying event.  Evaluating your markets and clients will help you find out “what’s in it for THEM”.  Breakfast and learning at the Conway Chamber of Commerce is a fun way to interact with the local business community.  See you downtown on March 15th at 10 AM.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

29 December 2017

As we come to the end of the year, the New Year’s Resolutions are starting to fester.  We all hope for a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2018.  Here in the world of OTFND (Old Tricks For New Dogs), I have many new directions – one of them this web site.

In mid January, I am planning a river trip with Captain Matt of Waccamaw Outfitters to do more photography on the Waccamaw River.  The difference this time is we will be using lighting. With lighting, I want to create more drama in the images.  We will be able to accompany 4 to 5 more photographers for this trip.

The workshop series will start up in February – topics to be announced early January.

I hope to get this all linked to my social media to get the word out.  Thank you all for being a part of the adventure!
